Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (Exit) Knarr

Der 1971 in Opdal geborene Ingebrigt Håker Flaten gehört seit Mitte der 1990er-Jahre zur vitalen Jazzszene Norwegens. Er spielte im Maria Kannegård Trio und mit Bands wie The Source, und tourte Bugge Wesseltofts New Conceptions Of Jazz. Er ist Bassist im kooperativen Trio The Thing mit dem Saxofonisten Mats Gustafsson und dem Schlagzeuger Paal Nilssen-Love, außerdem war er Sideman für unter anderem Evan Parker, Paul Lytton, Joe Lovano, Yousef Lateef, Billy Cobham, Chris Potter und Dave Liebman. (Exit) Knarr ist ein Auftragsprojekt, das Flaten 2020 für das Festival Vossa Jazz verwirklicht hat. Dafür hat er eine internationale Besetzung gefunden (unter anderem „Featured Artist“, PIanistin Marta Warelis, und die Saxofonistin Amalie Dahl), mit der er einen Soundsetting erzeugt, das verschiedene Gattungen und Traditionen unter ein Dach zusammenbringt. (Exit) Knarr setzen sich mit der singbaren Folklore Skandivanviens auseinander und kombinieren diese mit ihrer Vorstellung eines schruntigen Avantgarde-Jazz, der auf pluckernden Grooves Und einem flirrenden Puls aufbaut.

Mette Rasmussen, Craig Taborn & Ches Smith – Weird of Mouth

Das Trio Weird Of Mouth ist eine transatlantische Angelegenheit, das mit der in Norwegen lebenden, dänischen Saxofonistin Mette Rasmussen und den beiden US-Amerikanern Craig Taborn (Piano) und Ches Smith (Drums) besetzt ist. Für die drei Musiker:innen ist freie Improvisation zuallererst Komponieren in „real-time“ und Schallgeschwindigkeit. Die Grenze zwischen dem, was zuvor abgesprochen worden ist, und dem, was im Moment des Entstehens von Musik passiert, ist bei ihnen überhaupt nicht mehr wahrnehmbar. Interaktion ist für Rasmussen, Taborn und Smith in der Regel ein antizipierender Prozess. Nur so lässt es sich gewährleisten, dass die Geschwindigkeit hoch ist und Aktion und Reaktion spontan wie von selbst ablaufen. Das Ergebnis ist rituell und geradezu rauschhaft, hochenergetisch und nahezu explosiv.

Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (Exit) Knarr

Born in Opdal in 1971, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten has been part of Norway's vibrant jazz scene since the mid-1990s. He has played in the Maria Kannegård Trio and with bands such as The Source, and toured with Bugge Wesseltoft's New Conceptions Of Jazz. He is bassist in the co-operative trio The Thing with saxophonist Mats Gustafsson and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love, and has also been a sideman for Evan Parker, Paul Lytton, Joe Lovano, Yousef Lateef, Billy Cobham, Chris Potter and Dave Liebman, among others. (Exit) Knarr is a commissioned project that Flaten realised in 2020 for the Vossa Jazz Festival. He has found an international line-up (including featured artist, pianist Marta Warelis and saxophonist Amalie Dahl) to create a soundscape that brings together different genres and traditions under one roof. (Exit) Knarr explore the singable folklore of Scandivanvia and combine it with their idea of a quirky avant-garde jazz based on chugging grooves and a shimmering pulse.

The Weird Of Mouth trio is a transatlantic affair, featuring the Norwegian-based Danish saxophonist Mette Rasmussen and the two US-Americans Craig Taborn (piano) and Ches Smith (drums). For the three musicians, free improvisation is first and foremost composing in ‘real time’ and at the speed of sound. The boundary between what has been agreed beforehand and what happens at the moment the music is created is no longer perceptible to them. For Rasmussen, Taborn and Smith, interaction is generally an anticipatory process. This is the only way to ensure that the speed is high and that action and reaction happen spontaneously as if by themselves. The result is ritualistic and almost intoxicating, highly energetic and almost explosive.
